The Beauty Benefits of Watermelon

What’s the best way to beat the heat in the summer? Lazing next to a pool under the shades sipping on watermelon juice! Watermelon is the go-to fruit for re-hydration because of its abundance in water, up to 93% is water and has loads of natural vitamins such as vitamin A and C. Watermelon is also rich in antioxidants, which makes it have amazing qualities to do wonders on the skin.

After eating the watermelon, many people throw away the rind of the fruit. But did you know that the rind, the outer white layer of the fruit, contains the most vitamins and antioxidants? There are so many beauty benefits of the rind when used topically. It has lots of antioxidants that help fight the signs of aging skin such as wrinkles and fine lines. It fades age spots and prevents new ones from forming. Using the rind on acne prone skin would reduce the signs of acne and pimples forming because it removes excess oil from the skin that causes acne. The rind has both soothing and healing benefits, so it is a great remedy to treat sunburns and also any itchy rashes. Last but not least, the rind can re-hydrates and moisturizes dry, dull skin.

How should we use the rind? It’s an easy process. The first thing you have to do is slice the rind until there’s only little of pink flesh left on it. Place the rind in a blender and blend into a paste. You can add other ingredients as well such as cucumbers or lemon juice to enhance the beauty effects. Apply the paste onto your face of any other place that needs treatment. Let the mask sit for about 15-20 minutes and let the watermelon do its wonder. I recommend doing this mask often so your skin will have better results faster. Although you can use the red, pink flesh but applying it on your face would be a waste of watermelon flesh that can be eaten instead. Better yet, eating fresh cold watermelon while having a rind mask is one of the best ways to cool down during the summer!
