How to Make a Pimple Go Away Fast

You can be doing all the right things to keep your acne under control, when, lo and behold, a zit pops up out of nowhere. And, of course, it happens right when you have a first date, big presentation, wedding, or fill-in-the-blank major event in the next 24 hours. That’s when it’s handy to have a few tricks up your sleeve. Here are a few things you can do at home to make your pimple go away faster and look less red in the meantime.

Ask Yourself: To Pop or Not to Pop?

When making an action plan for how to make a pimple go away, the first thing you have to decide is whether or not to pop it. The rule of thumb is: If you don’t see a white head, don’t pop it, especially if it’s a big hard pimple lurking under skin’s surface. Popping a pimple before it’s ready will only make matters worse.

On the flipside: If the white head has already reared its ugly head and the blemish is swollen, extracting the contents via careful popping can help make the pimple go away faster and jump-start the recovery process. Refer to our guide above for important tips on how to be gentle on skin while popping a pimple.

Unclog Pores and Soothe Redness

Whether or not you pop the pimple, salicylic acid (also known as BHA) is your next go-to fix for making zits disappear quickly. This superhero ingredient not only keeps blemishes at bay, it also works incredibly fast on active breakouts.

Salicylic acid’s acne-fighting power is twofold: First, it penetrates pores to dissolve oil and other breakout-causing substances, and, second, its soothing properties help minimize the redness that accompanies a blemish. It’s a win-win ingredient to help make pimples go away fast.

Use a salicylic acid exfoliant daily for acne-prone skin, and keep a high-strength spot treatment on-hand to help those occasional, extra-stubborn bumps go down overnight.

What About Removing Pimple Marks?

What do you do once your pimple is gone, but you’re left with an ugly red or brown mark that won’t go away? There’s a trick for that, too: Spot treat with a potent dose of vitamin C. Vitamin C is backed by mounds of research for its ability to help brighten uneven skin tone and minimize red marks. And keep using that salicylic acid exfoliant to further speed fading of pimple marks.

Is lemon juice on the face good or bad?

Lemon juice is loaded with healthy vitamins so it is useful as both a food and as a home remedy for many disorders. What is less well known is that lemon juice also has many benefits when applied directly to the skin. What are those benefits? How to apply lemon juice for optimum results?

The acids in the juice may be irritating to some people so be sure to dilute lemon juice with water before applying it to your skin. Some of the benefits of lemon juice on skin include:

– Vitamin C – Also known as ascorbic acid, vitamin C does a great job at evening out pigmentation without too much irritation.

– Citric acid – Citric acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). You can read more about AHAs in skincare here, but in short they’re great for exfoliating your skin, making it look plumper and smoother.

– Niacin (vitamin B3) – This is anti-inflammatory, helps with pigmentation and alleviates dry skin as well.

So yes, lemon could be great for your skin! This are some of the benefits of using lemon juice:

1. Diminishes scars and age spots

The discoloration caused by scars, certain skin disorders and age spots can be diminished by applying lemon juice to the discolored area.

2. Heals acne

Lemon juice has natural antibacterial properties that make it a good choice to help cure acne and prevent further breakouts. Using lemon juice on blackheads has been shown to reduce the frequency and severity of blackheads.

3. Exfoliates

Lemon juice is a natural exfoliant since the citric acid acts as a gentle “skin peel” that removes the top layer of dead skin cells. This will result in a smooth complexion when used regularly.

4. Lightens the skin

Brightening or lightening the skin, moisturizing and toning oily skin, and fighting wrinkles.

Tips and Warnings for Using Lemon Juice on Skin

There are some tips and warnings for using lemon juice on your skin:

1. Stinging sensation

Lemon juice may produce stinging due to the citric acid in the juice. Mix the lemon juice with some water if you cannot tolerate the burning and stinging. Start by mixing the lemon juice and water in a half and half solution and then adjust the mixture based on how your skin feels.

2. Dry skin

Lemon juice applied to already dry skin can actually make that condition worse. If you do have dry skin, be sure to use a good moisturizer after applying lemon juice to your skin. Lemon juice and honey also make for a good antibacterial and moisturizing combination. If your skin is oily, try combining the lemon juice with some cucumber juice.

4. The right frequency

Using lemon juice on your skin every day may lead to dry, broken skin that is more susceptible to infection.

5. Keeping off sun exposure

Be cautious when using lemon juice especially if there’s a large amount of lemon juice in it, and make sure you wear sunscreen next time you go into the sun. And stop immediately if you see any signs of irritation or depigmentation!

THE 8 HOUR BEAUTY SLEEP SECRET

To be honest I’m one of those who can get by on three or five hours of sleep and brag about it to my friends. But, look karma is after me and it got me good. Sleep deprivation caused me terrible changes to my body and skin. People will look at me and say I look like 10 years older than my actual age! Unfortunately we can’t make up for the loss of sleep. But here is why your skin needs its 8 hours sleep and it also applies to men:

REGENERATION

During sleep, your body rejuvenates, detoxify and tissues renew at a faster speed as the brain releases hormones for renovation and growth. Without sleep, mini breakdowns that happened during the day stay on the skin.  It is during the night that our body works extra hard to heal and repair.

HORMONES

When you sleep, skin goes into conservation mode because the adrenaline and corticosteroid levels drop and the body produces human growth hormone (HGH) when not disturbed. If sleep is insufficient, stress hormones increase, leading chances of inflammation in the form of eczema, psoriasis, acne and skin sensitivity.

COLLAGEN

Part of skin’s natural repair process is the production of collagen to fight the development of fine lines. Skin beauty is related to the amount of this youthful protein which decreases as we age. Skimping on even two hours of sleep negatively impacts collagen production.

MOISTURE

Skin uses moisture when we sleep. During sleep cycles the body flushes out toxins via sweat. Skin recovers moisture during sleep and processes excess water for removal. If lack of sleep is interrupted; skin appears drier with fine lines being more prominent. Your skin shows poor water balance with under eye circles and bags alongside dryness that highlights visible wrinkles.

HEALTH

With the five sleep cycles, each lasting 90 minutes, skin initiates cell repair. Minor damages can be reversed overnight during the deeper phases of sleep. Try to sleep on your back, lying face down or sideways on your pillow creates lines and contribute to wrinkle formation.

Remember a great night sleep will bring on bright eyes and radiant skin, a win-win situation!

So he blamed the free radicals

My younger brother used to suffer from severe acne during his teenager days. What really annoyed him were his friends and relatives unwelcome comments like:

  • you have an unhealthy diet
  • you sleep too late
  • you touch your face too much or even worse,
  • you do not cleanse your face at all

What!! I mean he did everything right and still woke up with a pineapple face. But why?

A recent study published in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology explains that the main culprit to acne is Free Radicals, because they cause inflammation in the skin which blocks pores and eventually leads to pimples. Free radicals are reactive, unstable atoms that are missing an electron. In an effort to gain stability, they steal an electron from a nearby stable molecule. This creates a new radical and results in a chain reaction, this repeated process is very damaging to our cells.

We are constantly exposed to free radicals through normal processes such as our body using oxygen (breathing) or responding to stress. Additional exposure comes from repeat contact with environmental influences like the sun exposure and pollution and smoking.

ANTIOXIDANT = FREE RADICALS FIGHTER

Then which antioxidants help to control acne breakouts the most? Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by donating one of their own electrons, ending the electron-“stealing” reaction.

Neutralize free radicals and the damage they cause with Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10, which is a substance that the human body makes naturally. Cells use it to generate energy. CoQ10 also functions as a powerful antioxidant to help fight free radicals that can damage cells and DNA. It can be found as one of the components for cellular therapy.

The vitamins C and E  protect the body against the destructive effects of free radicals. To ensure an good intake of the antioxidant nutrients maintain a balanced diet consisting of 5-8 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Of course, my brother followed all these alternatives and in a few weeks he got a clearer skin and got his confidence back.

Does Sugar Make You Age Faster?

We all know that eating too many sweets and sugary food is bad for your health, and you will probably gain some pounds too. But did it ever concern you that too much sugar in the body may cause skin problems? For sweet and dessert lovers out there, this might get u a bit upset but here is the truth about what sugar might do to your skin.

According to Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a dermatologist and nutritionist, sugar can cause “a burst of inflammation throughout the body.” Why is that? Sugar or high-glycemic foods convert to sugar rapidly. These carbohydrates will break down into glucose, which will raise your insulin levels and puts unnatural demands on your body. The inflammation will produce enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, which may result in wrinkles and sagging skin. Aside from increasing effects of aging, too much sugar may cause skin conditions like acne and rosacea. The more sugar you intake, the more likely you will develop insulin resistance, which can manifest as excess hair growth and dark patches on the neck and in body creases.

What sugar you should avoid? Simple carbohydrates, which can rapidly break down into glucose and result in insulin spikes, are your skin’s enemy. Such foods that contain simple carbohydrates are: white bread, candy, fried food, ice cream, cream cheese, pizza, packaged snacks, soda, fruit juice, and sugar (white and brown). If you want healthier body and skin, consume less of these foods.

But don’t worry, not all sugar is bad. Complex carbohydrates, which are broken down into glucose at a slower rate, are good for the skin and body. Foods such as brown rice, vegetables, beans, nuts, whole grains and fruits contain complex carbohydrates and other natural elements that will help you maintain your youthful skin.

The rule is simple: eat less of complex carbohydrates and more of complex carbohydrates. It is okay to cheat once in a while because having a balanced diet is most important. So, don’t feel stressed, you can still eat your favorite dessert. 😉

The Beauty Benefits of Watermelon

What’s the best way to beat the heat in the summer? Lazing next to a pool under the shades sipping on watermelon juice! Watermelon is the go-to fruit for re-hydration because of its abundance in water, up to 93% is water and has loads of natural vitamins such as vitamin A and C. Watermelon is also rich in antioxidants, which makes it have amazing qualities to do wonders on the skin.

After eating the watermelon, many people throw away the rind of the fruit. But did you know that the rind, the outer white layer of the fruit, contains the most vitamins and antioxidants? There are so many beauty benefits of the rind when used topically. It has lots of antioxidants that help fight the signs of aging skin such as wrinkles and fine lines. It fades age spots and prevents new ones from forming. Using the rind on acne prone skin would reduce the signs of acne and pimples forming because it removes excess oil from the skin that causes acne. The rind has both soothing and healing benefits, so it is a great remedy to treat sunburns and also any itchy rashes. Last but not least, the rind can re-hydrates and moisturizes dry, dull skin.

How should we use the rind? It’s an easy process. The first thing you have to do is slice the rind until there’s only little of pink flesh left on it. Place the rind in a blender and blend into a paste. You can add other ingredients as well such as cucumbers or lemon juice to enhance the beauty effects. Apply the paste onto your face of any other place that needs treatment. Let the mask sit for about 15-20 minutes and let the watermelon do its wonder. I recommend doing this mask often so your skin will have better results faster. Although you can use the red, pink flesh but applying it on your face would be a waste of watermelon flesh that can be eaten instead. Better yet, eating fresh cold watermelon while having a rind mask is one of the best ways to cool down during the summer!
