No makeup movement embrace your natural beauty

Empowerment to embrace your natural beauty

Many women especially celebrities were encouraged to wear makeup in order to perfect all the time. The race towards today’s beauty standard can increase your insecurities to the point you don’t have the courage to walk out of the house without makeup. Women often feel that makeup is the perfect shield against judgment and often opt to put on this mask to feel comfortable and hide their insecurities of not being beautiful enough. The unrealistic beauty expectations that no human can achieve completely is a lost quest.

In 2016 Alicia Keys stopped wearing makeup in public in her journey toward self-empowerment to show her true face, mind, soul, thoughts, dreams, struggles, and emotional growth.  Keys only focus in enhancing her natural glow with a complete skin care regimen, serums, masks, rollers, oils, facials, spf, healthy meals and exercises. Many artist followed her path posting bared faced Instagram pictures.

True confidence and empowerment is to accept ones flaws and work to fix your skin issues instead of using makeup to cover it up to exude confidence. Many skin issues are due to bad habits that we need to fix from the inside out and protect the skin from the harsh environment. This will help to decrease the signs of aging in the long run, something that makeup won’t be able to cover.

In addition, love yourself and stay positive to supporting each other in the realization that worth isn’t based on looks. When you chose to wear makeup once in a while on a fancy occasion to change you look and have a dramatic red carpet entrance is awesome but not to depend on makeup to feel beautiful to please the tough audience.

Embrace your natural face with flaws and all.

Be proud to be you!

Pillows: How They Can Be Harming (And Helping!) Your Skin

When it comes to helping your skin look its very best (younger, smoother, clearer), there are three things I know for sure:

1. Use well-formulated products for your unique skin type.

2. Sunscreen is the most powerful anti-aging product on the planet.

3. Your lifestyle choices matter.

In this post, I’ll be talking about one lifestyle choice, how you sleep at night on your pillow. You spend approximately 2,500 hours per year spent curled up with it, so good decisions matter depending on your skin concerns and what you’re looking to prevent or improve.

If you have under eye puffiness…you’ll want to sleep on two pillows at night. The theory here is that when your head is elevated, it helps to reduce fluid retention so you’re less puffy both in the face and under the eyes in the morning. (It’s also important to use light-weight eye cream to eliminate puffiness and keep it hydrated such as SwissZell Instant Eye Wrinkle Defense Cream.

If you have tired-looking skin…you’ll want to sleep on a single pillow that is thinner with a low elevation. The theory here is that during the daytime hours, you’re in an upright position for 16 hours and the blood can move away (downward) from the face making the skin look pale and tired in people who are genetically prone to this. So at night, you want to have your head as flat as possible (and ideally, tilted a bit backward) to re-balance that flow and stimulate circulation to the face to give an inner glow. It’s also why I suggest using a well-formulated and hydrating serum like this one.

If you have deep wrinkles that run from the nostril to the corner of the mouth – you’ll want to sleep on your back. Or if you’re a side sleeper, position your head on the lower corner of your pillow. The theory here is that to prevent the deep creases (known as “parentheses” or “marionette” lines), you want to avoid a squishing of the cheeks, which only exacerbates these lines that come naturally with age due to smiling and laughing.

If you have deep horizontal wrinkles across your neck – you’ll want to sleep on only one pillow that is thinner with a low elevation. The theory here is that if your head is elevated while you sleep (especially for those with shorter necks), you are creasing the skin by having your head tilted in a downward position. This is also known as “tech neck” where the 45-degree angle created when you hang your head down to look at your cell phone during the day causes premature folds and wrinkles in the neck. You always want to keep your head as straight as humanly possible. Someone once told me, “You’re only as young as your neck.”

If you have chest wrinkles above your breasts – you’ll want to sleep on your back. Known as “cleavage wrinkles”, these are deep, vertical creases caused by sleeping on your side, where gravity forces the top breast to bend farther past the body’s mid line than it should. Sleeping on your back is the best option for preventing these.

Note: If you’re a side sleeper but want to sleep on your back, some companies have invented pillows that can help train you into this new position. I’ve never tried any of them but have come across them online through the years, so do an internet search for these to see what you can find.

If you’re prone to breakouts…many people don’t realize this, but when sleeping on your pillowcase for 7-8 hours a night, you are transferring a lot of oil from both your hair and face onto the pillowcase. Oil ends up on your face when you sleep on your stomach or side. And because oil breeds bacteria which then leads to breakouts, it only makes sense that you’d want to sleep on a clean pillowcase every night.

My professional suggestion is to get two nights out of the same pillowcase. You can achieve this by sleeping on one side of the pillow on one night and then flipping it over on the second night. After two nights, you’ll want to replace your pillowcase with a fresh, clean one. I’ve heard that there are pillowcases made with materials other than cotton that supposedly are more breathable so that your skin doesn’t absorb dirt and oil. If you’re really serious about your skin and want to prevent breakouts, you may want to look into those types.

And of course cleansing your skin before you go to bed to remove the day’s dirt, bacteria, germs and makeup is essential to keep breakouts under control. A day’s worth of oil on the skin (and bacteria from touching your face all day) will cause more breakouts than just a dirty pillowcase, so please make sure you are diligent about washing your face daily.

Do Eye Creams Really Work?

Let me start by saying that eye creams and other skin care products will not work miracles, even though many cosmetic companies and their salespeople say they do. We are under the impression that eye creams will remove all lines and wrinkles and make the skin under the eyes smooth and youthful again. If you’re using an eye cream thinking it’s a quick fix, unfortunately, I have bad news. They just don’t work like this. However, more invasive treatments, such as Botox, can dramatically smooth eye wrinkles away quickly and effectively. An eye cream simply cannot do this. BUT can eye creams help to prevent wrinkles and keep this area moist and younger-looking? Absolutely yes…

The skin around the eyes is ten times thinner than that of the face, and it has very few oil glands. Plus, we blink 10,000 times a day, squint and smile, so this area is the first to show signs of aging. It’s important to treat this tender area by using an eye cream every single night. Skin cells are like fish and they need water to live so you need to keep hydration levels up to prevent moisture evaporation. Moisture loss = premature skin cell death. Not good.

For an example of the powerful effects of topical moisturization, I always refer back to a study done on stretch marks in pregnant women. It showed that women who applied lotion to their stomachs several times a day (any kind of lotion, no specific magic ingredient) had fewer stretch marks than those who rarely moisturized. When the skin is hydrated topically, it keeps the skin’s structure intact. This, in turn, keeps it supple so there is less wear and tear. The bottom line is, moisturizing definitely works. With regards to the eye area, since this skin is constantly moving from smiling, squinting and rubbing, an eye cream definitely prevents collagen and elasticity breakdown. The result is fewer premature lines and wrinkles.

There have been many breakthroughs in the science of moisture retention. When choosing an eye cream, it’s important to use one that is well-formulated and doesn’t use petrolatum or mineral oil. Instead, choose eye creams that use good emollients and barrier-repairing oils like sunflower or jojoba oils. These natural oils are much better for repairing the skin and preventing trans-epidermal water loss. This keeps the skin moist and supple—the way it should be to prevent visible aging. Recommended eye cream: SwissZell Instant Eye Wrinkle Defense Cream, it offers other benefits in addition to hydration and are both very powerful formulas.

One missing piece that people aren’t totally aware of is the importance of exfoliating under the eyes. You must use a gentle exfoliant around the eye area to actually remove the dryness so fresher, plumper cells come to the surface of the skin and your eye cream can give better results. Trying to moisturize cells that are already expired won’t get you very far, trust me on this one. While it’s important to use eye cream, people hardly have ever been told that gentle exfoliation around the eyes can make a significant improvement in reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles and smoothing away surface dryness.

Trust me, eye creams do work. I swear by them; I personally use them every single day and night. Do I still have wrinkles around my eyes? Yes. I’m getting close to age 40 and this is normal. But when I look at my siblings and parents to see how they are aging under their eyes, by comparison, I feel that I’m doing much better because I take better care of my skin.

Note: Eye creams do not have to be heavy and greasy to work. In fact, if an eye cream is too greasy, it can migrate into the eyes and cause under eye puffiness. This then unnecessarily stretches out the skin, causing a weakening in elasticity. Not good at all!

Bottom line, invest in a good eye cream along with an under-eye exfoliator and commit to using them faithfully.

Why Eye Cream Is Essential, No Matter Your Age!

Many things can cause the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Squinting, constant movement, and even fluids that collect under the eyes can cause puffiness and dark circles.

Eye creams can help correct some of these issues, and become your new best friend in the meantime!

What’s In A Cream?

Eye creams are formulated specifically for the delicate skin surrounding your eyes. These creams tend to be thicker than your normal moisturizer, and contain more oil as well. Most eye creams contain active ingredients that target the problem areas you may have around your eyes.

Dry Skin

Got dry skin? Don’t worry, it’s fairly common. The skin surrounding the eye is some of the driest skin of your entire complexion, mostly because there are very few oil glands contained underneath the skin. Regularly applying makeup like concealer and foundation can dehydrate this delicate skin even further, especially if you haven’t moisturized first.

A hydrating eye cream is a great “starter” eye cream, because moisturizing this area will help to keep it smooth.

Dark Circles

Another common problem most of us are all too familiar with: The dreaded dark circles. Sometimes they’re genetic, sometimes they’re just a physical representation of our exhaustion. Either way, eye cream can help!

Some dark circles are caused by an overproduction of melanin, and some are just your blood vessels peeking through your skin. Losing bone and fat in your face as you age can make the hollows under your eyes seem more pronounced.

Puffy Eyes

Puffiness is another common issue that affects the skin under our eyes. This is most likely caused by retained fluid. Contributing factors can range from a salty diet, the way you sleep, and, again, genetics.

Delicately massaging the area can move the fluid, and pairing a light massage with the proper eye cream can help reduce overall puffiness.

Fine Lines And Wrinkles

If you’re primarily concerned about fine lines and wrinkles, avoiding UV exposure is your first defense. Your second defense, of course, is moisturizing and hydrating your skin with an eye cream that contains collagen-boosting ingredients like peptides or retinol.

Sun Damage And Skin Aging

Did you know that up to 90% of skin aging is caused by the sun? If that sounds like a scary statistic, that’s because it is. But it doesn’t have to be if you follow some simple guidelines to protect your skin, and that includes the fragile skin surrounding your eyes.

You can repair and potentially even reverse signs of skin aging by developing a thorough skincare routine – that includes a good facial cleanser, moisturizer, eye cream, and of course proper SPF protection.

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, year-round, daily use of sunscreen in addition to your regular facial products can not only lower your risk of skin cancer by reducing your daily sun exposure, but sunscreen lets your skin heal and repair some existing damage.

To help you win the fight against dark under-eye circles, try using the SwissZell Instant Eye Wrinkle Defense Cream .  Gentle enough for the sensitive skin around the eyes, this rejuvenating treatment works with your natural sleep cycle to revive your eyes.  This luxurious cream is concentrated with peptides and wrinkle-relaxing milk protein, which diminish the appearance of fine lines and it also helps with problem areas like overall dryness, dark circles, and puffiness.

Final Thoughts

Adding eye cream into your daily regimen is something you’ll be glad you started when you did. It’s easy to forget about giving the area under your eyes a little extra care, especially if you’re already dedicated to moisturizing your face.

Starting early is something most young women don’t consider, but if you’re reading- trust me. The time will come where you’ll be thankful you did! Eye cream keeps your eyes looking bright and awake, while working in a myriad of ways that can only benefit the overall health of your skin.

Beyond the cosmetic perks, eye cream takes care of the targeted area surrounding your eyes in a way other products don’t.

Lighter, brighter, smoother eyes are just a dab of cream away!

How To Get Clear & Healthy Skin

No one likes blemishes and everyone tries to avoid them. But with rising pollution and increasing levels of stress, keeping the odd blemish at bay is near impossible, which leads to the ever present question of how to get clear skin?

While there’s a plethora of products out there to try when it comes truly understanding how to get clear skin a slap dash approach won’t cut it. You need those designed to cleanse your pores, hydrate your skin and even-out your complexion.

But achieving the holy grail of clear skin isn’t only a topical situation. It starts in the kitchen with inflammation fighting smoothie ingredients and moves onto the bedroom: do you have enough downtime for skin regeneration? Beauty sleep isn’t just a very overused phrase, it’s an actual bodily process and does affect whether you have glowing skin or not.

So dermatologists, nutritionists and cosmetologists explain exactly how to get clear skin and how to maintain it. Think of this as your ultimate guide to skin clarity, health and how to get clear skin.

WHAT CAUSES ACNE

Firstly, you need to be aware of what causes breakouts in the first place. These factors, whether combined or on their own, are the biggest culprits against your efforts when it comes to how to get clear skin.

– Using old cosmetics and unclean brushes
– Hormone imbalances caused by factors like the contraceptive pill
– Stripping oils with harsh skincare products
– Stress
– High GI foods (like potatoes and white bread)
– Dairy
– Germs from your phone and pillowcase
– Friction and rubbing from bed-sheets
– Changing skincare products regularly or introducing more than one new skincare product at a time

EXPERT ADVICE ON HOW TO GET CLEAR SKIN

HOW TO GET CLEAR SKIN NATURALLY

1. Don’t Overdo It

When it comes to how to get clear skin, you need to use a gentle face wash that won’t upset the pH balance of your skin. “As soon as an individual has a breakout, there is a tendency to obsess about skin cleansing”, says Dr Justine Hextall, FRCP Consultant Dermatologist.

“By the time I see acne patients they’re often suffering more because of harsh cleansing routines, rather than the original problem. Think less is more. If your skin feels tight after washing your face or putting on a mask, then you have probably stripped off your natural oils and unbalanced the pH of your skin”.

2. Exfoliate

Most of the time breakouts occur due to a combination of dead skin cells and natural oils mixing together to create a plug that clogs your pores. By getting rid of these dead skin cells, you eliminate this chance.

However, harsh exfoliators can lead to irritated skin and micro tears, which are more susceptible to bacteria, so try to use gentle exfoliators that contain natural ingredients.

HOW TO GET CLEAR SKIN OVERNIGHT WITHOUT PRODUCTS

While there’s no magic potion that’s going to give you crystal clear skin overnight, these nightly rituals can help you along your way.

3. Get Some Downtime

Cells that produce sebum have receptors for stress hormones, so when you’re stressed, you produce more sebum, increasing the chance of clogging your pores.

In addition to this, when we experience stress, our adrenal gland goes into overdrive and increases our androgens (male hormones). Higher androgen levels can lead to more acne.

Take out ten minutes for meditation, or if you do want to throw in a product, give yourself a relaxing face mask.

4. Practice Facial Massage

The Chinese philosophy of Qi/Chi stimulating massage as well as Reflexology therapy believe that by pressing certain points of the body, facial acne can be cured.

According to the ancient science, the body consists of energy centres or energy meridians which are responsible for our overall health and wellness.

By manipulating these meridians you’re able to make the energy flow normally again and restore your skin’s balance. Plus, you’ll promote blood flow and increase circulation, which will feed your skin.

If you do want to add a product into your massage routine, “massage an anti-oxidant oil in your skin at night to de-stress your skin, whilst ensuring excellent hydration and that all-important wind-down before sleep”, says Dr Hextall.

WHAT TO EAT TO GET CLEAR SKIN

5. Don’t Use Hot Water

Does your skin feel itchy when you get out of the shower? If it does, your water is too hot.

Not only can this lead to uneven skin tone, it can also result in dry, flaky skin.

“The hotter the shower (or bath) the more the water will remove natural skin oil and dry your skin out”, says Dr Hextall. Avoid this problem by washing your face with lukewarm water.

6. Look At Labels

You should know what you’re putting on your face, but that’s not always the case. What’s worse, a lot of skincare and makeup products out there contain highly comedogenic ingredients, meaning they clog your pores.

Try to steer clear of petroleum and petroleum byproducts, like silicone and dimethicone. And instead look for calming anti-inflammatory ingredients like calendula, chamomile, clay and niacinamide to soothe irritated, red skin.

7. Wear SPF

In a recent study published in the journal Dermatologic Surgery, it was found that sun cream not only protects your skin from sun damage, it can also reverse the signs of photo-ageing, like wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation.

The study, sponsored by the Johnson & Johnson’s Skin Research Centre and led by dermatologists Steven Wang and James Leyden, showed improvements in the many signs of ageing caused by the sun. This included things like texture, overall tone, and fine lines.

Participants who applied a moisturizer containing SPF 30, saw improvements of 52 percent in mottled pigmentation, 40 percent in skin texture, and 41 percent in skin clarity after one year of use.

So if you’re using sun cream on holiday, you’re partly there. But, you should really be applying it every day. Even on the days when it seems like the sun doesn’t even exist. Because it does. Always.
