The Beauty Benefits of Watermelon

What’s the best way to beat the heat in the summer? Lazing next to a pool under the shades sipping on watermelon juice! Watermelon is the go-to fruit for re-hydration because of its abundance in water, up to 93% is water and has loads of natural vitamins such as vitamin A and C. Watermelon is also rich in antioxidants, which makes it have amazing qualities to do wonders on the skin.

After eating the watermelon, many people throw away the rind of the fruit. But did you know that the rind, the outer white layer of the fruit, contains the most vitamins and antioxidants? There are so many beauty benefits of the rind when used topically. It has lots of antioxidants that help fight the signs of aging skin such as wrinkles and fine lines. It fades age spots and prevents new ones from forming. Using the rind on acne prone skin would reduce the signs of acne and pimples forming because it removes excess oil from the skin that causes acne. The rind has both soothing and healing benefits, so it is a great remedy to treat sunburns and also any itchy rashes. Last but not least, the rind can re-hydrates and moisturizes dry, dull skin.

How should we use the rind? It’s an easy process. The first thing you have to do is slice the rind until there’s only little of pink flesh left on it. Place the rind in a blender and blend into a paste. You can add other ingredients as well such as cucumbers or lemon juice to enhance the beauty effects. Apply the paste onto your face of any other place that needs treatment. Let the mask sit for about 15-20 minutes and let the watermelon do its wonder. I recommend doing this mask often so your skin will have better results faster. Although you can use the red, pink flesh but applying it on your face would be a waste of watermelon flesh that can be eaten instead. Better yet, eating fresh cold watermelon while having a rind mask is one of the best ways to cool down during the summer!

The Beauty Benefits of Soy

One of my favorite drinks is soy milk. Soy is said to contain many high quality proteins, fibers, and isoflavones. The dietary intake of soy may reduce cholesterol and lower risk of heart disease. But did you know that soy has many great beauty benefits too? Yes, it has a number of positive effects on the skin and some skincare products have soy as one of their ingredients.

Soy is a member of the pea family and has been very popular in Southeastern Asia such as China and Japan. No wonder the Chinese and Japanese have both healthy body and skin. It is one of the world’s major food crops today and they can be processed into oil, milk, tofu, and soy protein. Since soy contains nutrients and proteins, many people use soy on skin as a beauty enhancer. By using soy on skin, it acts as a moisturizer to soften, smooth, and even out skin tones. It contains aglycones which promise the improvement of aging skin, and diminishing of fine lines and wrinkles. Soy also contains vitamin E which can help renew dead skin cells and promotes collagen production. Creams that contain soy are great for soothing and reversing sun damages.

One way to use soy on the skin is by making a soy mask. First by crushing the soy beans into powder form and add water to make it like a paste. Spread the paste on the face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. This will let the paste to absorb excess oil on your skin, leaving it smooth and toned. You can always mix in other natural ingredients such as eggs, honey, or oatmeal to make the mask for a deeper enhancement of the beauty effects. Another way is to use soy milk to wash your face.

Always be extra cautious when dealing with soy because it can cause allergic reactions similar to wheat, milk, eggs and peanuts. Always have only a moderate intake of soy because it might cause other problems if women continuously consume a large quantity. But with proper cautious and care, soy in general is a healthy ingredient for both body and skin.

How To Use Pearl Powder On Your Face

I’ve already heard about using pearl powder as a beauty product for many years, but it is until recently that I started to give it a try. Pearl powder has been used by many female impresses of China in the ancient days as a skin care preparation and cosmetic. Today, you can see many Asian cosmetics and creams contain pearl powder. Many People take it internally too, but let’s just stick with what pearl powder can do to your skin for now.

So, what is pearl powder? Pearl powder is actually grinded powder from pearls. There are two types of pearls, sea water pearl and fresh water pearl. Fresh water pearls are more abundant, therefore, less expensive than sea water pearls. But it doesn’t really matter which type of pearl powder you put on your face, it will have the same effect. Just make sure it says “100% pure pearl powder” and nothing else added.  Pearl powder is rich in calcium, protein and vitamins and very high in amino acid, so it is great for all skin types. It helps ease skin inflammation, promotes healing, and enhances elasticity and luminosity.

Recently, I use the pearl powder in 3 different ways:

  1. As a mask. I either mix pearl powder with honey or yogurt, and apply it on my face for anti-aging and also getting rid of acne scars and any kind of redness on my face. It is great for removing blotches and rosacea as well.
  2. I mix pearl powder with my beauty products like foundations and creams. This helps for oil control and also it helps even out my skin tone.
  3. As a finishing touch to my makeup routine. I spread a thin layer of pearl powder on my face with a brush after I’ve done my makeup. This will help to control oil and act as a setting powder. Don’t spread too much, or your face will be too pale and white like a geisha. Oh, and pearl powder helps filter out UV rays and prevent hyperpigmentation too!

After mask or before makeup, don’t forget to apply a thin layer of cream or serum to protect and moisturize your skin!

The Beauty Benefits of Ginseng

Ginseng in Chinese is “man root” because its roots resemble little human with forks that look like arms and legs. Some people have heard that ginseng is healthy to the body, but actually don’t even know why. And some people would say “oh, it’s good for your skin” but don’t really know what it actually does. If you really don’t know, it’s okay because you’re not alone. Coming from an Asian family background, I don’t know either besides my mom telling me that it’s healthy. So, I’ve done some research and here are some things I got so far.

I found that ginseng is great for human health in several ways. It strengthens the immune system and helps patience with diabetes to improve blood sugar level. It helps ease menstrual cramps for ladies. It serves as a stimulant for athletes because it is believed to help increase energy levels. It improves cellular health and helps patience feel less fatigue. And last but not least, I found that ginseng does a wonderful job improving your skin!

Ginseng is super rich in phytonutrients and antioxidants which are great for your skin. Ginseng mask is best for anti-aging because it helps reduce wrinkles and gets rid of the free radicals on your skin. The mask is great for reducing acne outbreaks and rosacea because it has anti-inflammatory properties. It helps protect the skin from UV radiation and also brightens up skin tones.

Right after I found out about the skin benefits of ginseng, I went to buy ginseng powder at a local Chinese pharmacy and made my own mask at home with honey and lemon. It is easy and convenient. So why don’t you try it too! And don’t forget to moisturize your face with a cream or a serum.

Feel free to comment down below or make any recommendations for using Ginseng. 😉
