Empowerment to embrace your natural beauty

Many women especially celebrities were encouraged to wear makeup in order to perfect all the time. The race towards today’s beauty standard can increase your insecurities to the point you don’t have the courage to walk out of the house without makeup. Women often feel that makeup is the perfect shield against judgment and often opt to put on this mask to feel comfortable and hide their insecurities of not being beautiful enough. The unrealistic beauty expectations that no human can achieve completely is a lost quest.

In 2016 Alicia Keys stopped wearing makeup in public in her journey toward self-empowerment to show her true face, mind, soul, thoughts, dreams, struggles, and emotional growth.  Keys only focus in enhancing her natural glow with a complete skin care regimen, serums, masks, rollers, oils, facials, spf, healthy meals and exercises. Many artist followed her path posting bared faced Instagram pictures.

True confidence and empowerment is to accept ones flaws and work to fix your skin issues instead of using makeup to cover it up to exude confidence. Many skin issues are due to bad habits that we need to fix from the inside out and protect the skin from the harsh environment. This will help to decrease the signs of aging in the long run, something that makeup won’t be able to cover.

In addition, love yourself and stay positive to supporting each other in the realization that worth isn’t based on looks. When you chose to wear makeup once in a while on a fancy occasion to change you look and have a dramatic red carpet entrance is awesome but not to depend on makeup to feel beautiful to please the tough audience.

Embrace your natural face with flaws and all.

Be proud to be you!

Best ways to hydrate your skin

water Sodium hyaluronate swisszell eye cream moisturizer

Drinking water hydrates your body from within but is distributed to the entire body. The moisture level of the skin depends on environmental factors and skin care regimen.

Environmental factors

Weather conditions such as extreme winter can leave the skin dry and itchy. It needs a strong barrier moisturizer to protect the skin. Then indoor heated air accelerates water loss from skin cells.

In hot dry windy weather conditions can speed the evaporation of moisture from the surface of the skin creating trans-epidermal water loss. Wind gust whisks moisture away from the epidermis breaking the protective barrier of lipid and protein cells in the skin. Humidifiers can help balance the indoor humidity levels but still need a moisturizing barrier for outdoor activities.

Skin care regimen

We often use the same skin care products during all four seasons. Sometimes we have to change some of them to adapt to the skin needs during the change of seasons. Winter is harsh on the skin and needs extra moisture to keep the skin hydrated. You have to avoid face wash that strip your skin of their natural oils and use extra moisturizing cream with sodium hyaluronate.

Sodium hyaluronate

Sodium hyaluronate is the smaller form of hyaluronic acid derived from sodium salt.  This potent suspended molecule penetrates deeply into the dermal layers of the skin. This ingredient has natural moisturizing factors to retain water in the skin for a hydrated and smooth feeling.

This natural fluid is found in the body that acts as a lubricant on the skin to restore moisture and prevent friction or abrasion. The topical medication can treat skin ulcers, wounds, dry and scaly skin. Due to its restorative properties helps repair tissues by binding collagen and elastin in the skin to improve firmness and elasticity. Its antioxidant properties help fight free radicals caused by environmental pollution.

Skin care products with this humectant help protect the skin from transdermal water loss. It helps keep extremely dry skin from flaking.

Sodium hyaluronate provides exceptional moisturizing benefits reducing the signs of aging for all skin types.

Sun Care for Eyes

We would like to share our best tips to keep UV rays from harming your eyes and help prevent visible signs of aging.

Sun care for eyes begins with facial sunscreen. It must be rated SPF 30 and labeled “broad spectrum,” which means it protects skin from the two main types of UV radiation: UVA rays and UVB rays.

Because the skin around the eyes can be more sensitive, look for sunscreens or for eye creams with sunscreen that contain only the mineral actives titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Among sunscreen ingredients, these are the least likely to cause stinging, even if they get into the eyes.

Here are more essential steps you can take to protect the skin around the eyes, and the eyes themselves, from direct light:

  • Wear sunglasses year-round, every time you’re outdoors, even if it’s cloudy—UV rays penetrate clouds.
  • Look for sunglasses labeled as providing “100% UV protection” or those that have an E-SPF rating, which measures the amount of protection the lenses provide from UV rays. Sunglasses not only look great, but also protect the eyes from numerous health issues.
  • When shopping for sunglasses, choose a wraparound style. This style protects your eyes and the skin around them from UV light that sneaks in from the sides and top of other sunglass styles.
  • Any sunscreen for your face should be fragrance free and loaded with antioxidants. The wide variety of antioxidants found in non-fragrant plant extracts, vitamins, and food ingredients like green tea work in combination with sunscreen to help skin around the eyes look younger and resist further visible signs of aging.
  • Consider using a concealer with sunscreen. You can apply this, or a gentle, mineral-based facial sunscreen, around the entire eye area, including on the delicate eyelids.
  • Eat foods rich in the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin. They’re found in leafy greens like kale and spinach, kiwis, grapes, and zucchini. Research has documented their protective role when eyes are exposed to UV radiation.

4 Hydrating Ingredients for Summer

Summer is when you sweat a lot and want to take a cold shower all the time. But taking too much shower will irritate your skin because you are stripping away all the healthy oil that’s protecting your skin and making it moist. Here are four ingredients that you can use to help your skin hydrated all the time after your shower.

  • Avocado oil – It is vitamin rich, soothing and has anti-inflammatory ingredients. It has emollient and semi-occlusive properties, meaning it penetrates and softens skin’s top layer while locking in moisture. It also has fatty acids that are biologically similar to the skin’s own sebum, so they don’t clog pores.
  • Aloe Vera Gel – Aloe contains a variety of vitamins, minerals and trace elements. It forms a protective layer when applied to skin, providing antibacterial as well as anti-inflammatory benefits while cooling and relieving pain. Also great for after sun treatment.
  • Cocoa butter – Cocoa butter is extracted from cocoa beans, consists of 60% saturated fats which are beneficial when used topically to create a barrier on skin to help retain moisture. It is also rich in antioxidants, containing vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C and E. Cocoa butter serves as an excellent moisturizer for dry skin.
  • Mango butter – Mango butter is derived from the seed of mango fruit and is rich in fatty acids such as omega-9, oleic and stearic. It can protect against free radicals, hydrates, softens fine lines and relieves irritation. Mango butter is especially beneficial to dry skin types.

Applying these will keep your skin hydrated and smooth all summer long.

Different Ways to Treat Sunburn

Summer is here and everyone is planning to go to the beach or had been to the beach already when the hot weather hits. We love the sun and most of us love to go tanning. We all know that we should put on sunscreen to protect our delicate skin from being burned. But, we should also know some remedies to treat our tanned or sometimes, even burned skin after being exposed to the sun for too long. Here are some natural home remedies that you could try to treat your sunburn.

  1. Aloe Vera: Aloe is great for treating sunburn and irritated skin because it has soothing properties. It eases irritation and pain associated with sunburn. Aloe gel and aloe plant itself both do an excellent job soothing and moisturizing your skin.
  2. Oatmeal: Oatmeal has soothing properties that helps soothe irritation and redness. It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to help reverse damages caused by sunburn. Simply fill the bath tub with water and pour 1-2 cups of oatmeal in. Soak your body for 10-15 minutes. This will help the burn heal faster and hydrates your skin.
  3. Cucumbers: Cucumber juice is great for cooling off the sunburn while hydrating your skin. It also contains crucial vitamins to speed up the healing process. Place thin slices of cucumber onto the sunburn or redness for about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Coconut oil: Coconut oil can act as a sunburn reliever by applying it onto your burned skin. It will soothe the inflamed skin, reduce redness, and rehydrates the skin.

Always moisturize your skin after the burn, especially the face because it has delicate skin. Always remember to put on sun protection before going out in the hot summer weather.

How to Apply Your Sunscreen Correctly

Summer is finally here in New York! Everybody is excited to go out to the beach and ready to play. But wait. Before you go out, make sure to put on sunscreen! What’s the correct way to put on sunscreen? We put on sunscreen by rubbing the cream all over our body that will be exposed to the sun. Simple, right? Not really.

For guys, they would simply apply the sunscreen all over their face, neck, and body before going out; sometimes maybe apply a moisturizer before the sunscreen. But for girls, we will have a whole different routine for our faces because we put on makeup. So, for us girls, should we put on makeup first or sunscreen first? The answer is, it is better to put the sunscreen last.

Los Angeles dermatologist Jessica Wu MD, recommends that girls should put makeup on first and then apply sunscreen at the very end. This way, the sunscreen wouldn’t be disturbed by the makeup, leading to uneven coverage. But don’t rub the sunscreen on. Simply rub the sunscreen between your palms and gently pat a thin layer onto your face evenly.

An alternative is to use a foundation or BB cream that has at least SPF 15 or more. This is great if you spend most of your time in the office and not exposed to the sun too often. But keep in mind that it is better for the foundation or BB cream to contain elements that protect your skin from both UVB and UVA rays. If you know you will be exposed to the sun longer, simply apply a thin layer of sunscreen using the patting method. Using a pressed powder with SPF 15 or more would work too.

The rule of thumb for applying sunscreen to any parts of your body is: sunscreen should always be the final step in your skin-care routine. Always apply the sunscreen 15-20 minutes before exposing to the sun and always reapply after two hours if exposed to the sun for a long time, especially if you’re swimming.

Here is a great sunscreen you can try. Happy Summer! 🙂
