Empowerment to embrace your natural beauty

Many women especially celebrities were encouraged to wear makeup in order to perfect all the time. The race towards today’s beauty standard can increase your insecurities to the point you don’t have the courage to walk out of the house without makeup. Women often feel that makeup is the perfect shield against judgment and often opt to put on this mask to feel comfortable and hide their insecurities of not being beautiful enough. The unrealistic beauty expectations that no human can achieve completely is a lost quest.

In 2016 Alicia Keys stopped wearing makeup in public in her journey toward self-empowerment to show her true face, mind, soul, thoughts, dreams, struggles, and emotional growth.  Keys only focus in enhancing her natural glow with a complete skin care regimen, serums, masks, rollers, oils, facials, spf, healthy meals and exercises. Many artist followed her path posting bared faced Instagram pictures.

True confidence and empowerment is to accept ones flaws and work to fix your skin issues instead of using makeup to cover it up to exude confidence. Many skin issues are due to bad habits that we need to fix from the inside out and protect the skin from the harsh environment. This will help to decrease the signs of aging in the long run, something that makeup won’t be able to cover.

In addition, love yourself and stay positive to supporting each other in the realization that worth isn’t based on looks. When you chose to wear makeup once in a while on a fancy occasion to change you look and have a dramatic red carpet entrance is awesome but not to depend on makeup to feel beautiful to please the tough audience.

Embrace your natural face with flaws and all.

Be proud to be you!

Best ways to hydrate your skin

water Sodium hyaluronate swisszell eye cream moisturizer

Drinking water hydrates your body from within but is distributed to the entire body. The moisture level of the skin depends on environmental factors and skin care regimen.

Environmental factors

Weather conditions such as extreme winter can leave the skin dry and itchy. It needs a strong barrier moisturizer to protect the skin. Then indoor heated air accelerates water loss from skin cells.

In hot dry windy weather conditions can speed the evaporation of moisture from the surface of the skin creating trans-epidermal water loss. Wind gust whisks moisture away from the epidermis breaking the protective barrier of lipid and protein cells in the skin. Humidifiers can help balance the indoor humidity levels but still need a moisturizing barrier for outdoor activities.

Skin care regimen

We often use the same skin care products during all four seasons. Sometimes we have to change some of them to adapt to the skin needs during the change of seasons. Winter is harsh on the skin and needs extra moisture to keep the skin hydrated. You have to avoid face wash that strip your skin of their natural oils and use extra moisturizing cream with sodium hyaluronate.

Sodium hyaluronate

Sodium hyaluronate is the smaller form of hyaluronic acid derived from sodium salt.  This potent suspended molecule penetrates deeply into the dermal layers of the skin. This ingredient has natural moisturizing factors to retain water in the skin for a hydrated and smooth feeling.

This natural fluid is found in the body that acts as a lubricant on the skin to restore moisture and prevent friction or abrasion. The topical medication can treat skin ulcers, wounds, dry and scaly skin. Due to its restorative properties helps repair tissues by binding collagen and elastin in the skin to improve firmness and elasticity. Its antioxidant properties help fight free radicals caused by environmental pollution.

Skin care products with this humectant help protect the skin from transdermal water loss. It helps keep extremely dry skin from flaking.

Sodium hyaluronate provides exceptional moisturizing benefits reducing the signs of aging for all skin types.

A diet rich in fatty acids, drinking a lot of water and this skin care humectant can truly keep your skin fully hydrated.

5 Beauty products you should NOT use every day

The journey to find your perfect beauty product lineup can be a long and windy road. It’s no wonder that when you find a product you just love, it can be tempting to apply that baby every single day! But some products are not meant to be for everyday use. Now check out just what types of products we should avoid overusing.

No time for a shower? Trying to make that fab hair day last? Dry shampoo can be your mane’s best pal. However, this miracle hair-saver in a spray bottle can also damage your locks with overuse.

Using a lot of dry shampoo day after day can dry your hair out and leave it feeling brittle and crispy. A build up of too much use can cause breakage and damage over time.

When a busy morning has you racing out the door, grab your trusty dry shampoo and spray away. But don’t get in the habit of relying on it every single day. You shouldn’t use it more than two days in a row.

Giving your dry scalp and roots a moisture-rich deep condition is a must for keeping your hair looking and feeling healthy, especially in the drier winter months. But stick to the package recommendations of once (maybe twice) per week.

“Over-use of deep protein-rich conditioning treatments can be detrimental,” says Citrone. “Protein-rich treatments can throw off the pH balance of the hair and cause the opposite effect, making your hair break off. If you feel like you need more love for your hair, then incorporate coconut oil as a weekly maintenance.”

We’ve all been that person digging through their bag searching for that trusty medicated lip balm. The refreshing and cooling finish is chapped lips’ lifesaver. But it’s a no-go for regular application. Annie Chiu, M.D., a dermatologist at The Derm Institute, recommends steering clear of using medicated lip balm on the reg, because you’ll end up making your chapped lip situation even worse.

“Overuse can cause your lips to rely on the medication to stay moisturized,” she says. “Use them until you are no longer chapped, and then switch to a regular lip balm.”

Primer is a fantastic base for a smooth, even foundation, allowing for your look to last longer and look flawless. However, your skin isn’t a big fan of its ingredients.

“Don’t use a primer ever single day,” Chiu says. “The silicone in these could clog pores with oils and sweat and cause breakouts. Save them for special occasions, and be sure to wash well when removing.”

Your lashes’ best friend, mascara, is a morning routine must for a long and full look. Thankfully, Los Angeles-based celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg isn’t advocating we ditch the mascara, but just watch out for the waterproof versions.

“It tends to dry out your lashes and should be used sparingly,” she says. “Put a coat of regular mascara on your lashes first and then use the waterproof to seal it in.”

Many of us can’t live without that hot cup of aromatic coffee to get us going in the morning. Did you know that you can use that coffee to help beautify your hair and skin as well? Coffee contains large amounts of multiple antioxidants and Hydrocinnamic acids are very effective at neutralizing free radicals and preventing oxidative stress. Used coffee grounds and are just too good to be wasted!

Check out below the reasons why you should rub this goodness all over you:

  • Use it as an exfoliator to achieve silky and smooth skin

Give your skin a boost by using coffee grounds! To use the grounds, grind your coffee beans so that it isn’t a sharp exfoliant, but a more gentle one. Then, gently scrub the grounds all over your skin. Rubbing them into your skin helps to slough off dead skin cells, leaving it refreshed and re-energized. Don’t forget to apply a moisturizing cream or serum after you the exfoliation.

  • Eliminate puffy tired eyes & dark circles

Puffy eyes are as a result of fluid retention in the under-eye region. What coffee does for your eyes is to constrict the blood vessels just below the eye skin’s surface, which reduces the swelling of puffiness, and it can help balance out skin tone too. All you need is one-half teaspoon of ground up coffee beans, a pinch of ground black pepper, a half-teaspoon of coconut oil and a few drops of water. Combine the ingredients into the palm of your hand using your finger, and then apply it in equal proportions to the underneath of each lower eyelid. Leave the mixture on for 5 to 10 minutes, or until it starts to dry. Then gently wipe it away with a damp cotton ball or soft tissue.  You’ll look well rested, refreshed!

  •  Reduce the appearance of cellulite

Cellulite is something most people struggle with, no matter how much you work out. The caffeine in coffee helps to dilate blood vessels, which temporarily tones and tightens tissue while improving blood circulation and reducing water retention .Caffeine in coffee is known for firming and toning skin by reducing fluid retention and cellulite.

  • Prevent clogged pores

Experts say coffe’s acidity helps to boost the skin’s protective barrier, which keeps your skin healthier. Coffee tightens pores and shrinks them which gives skin a flawless and youthful appearance. Use these coffee-infused ice cubes to promote that youthful look! Brew some coffee and pour it into an ice cube tray. Freeze until it turns to ice. Then wrap an ice cube in a hanky and dab on your face.

  •  Give shine to your hair

The acidity in coffee not only helps to smooth the cuticle of the hair, but it gives it extra shine. Make a cup of coffee and let it cool down completely the take it to the shower with you. After washing your hair, pour the coffee on it then rinse off with cold water.

There are many different ways of using coffee grounds. What’s your way? Please share your experience in the comments below!

3 Homemade Oatmeal Beauty Uses and Benefits

I bet almost all of you have had oatmeal for breakfast before. A warm bowl of oatmeal for breakfast can boost up your energy for the whole morning. But that’s not the only thing oatmeal can do to your body. The use of oatmeal has become popular in skincare and masks because of its cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing properties. It is no secret that oatmeal provides numerous skin benefits and many people, including me, are already adding oatmeal into our homemade masks. Oatmeal is full of vitamins, minerals and lipids that are very beneficial to any condition of one’s skin. Let me share with you 3 of my most favorite uses of oatmeal.

  1. If you are lazy, like me, a simple oatmeal mask is what I’ll go for. How simple? As simple as just adding water or milk to the oatmeal and mix it up to make a smooth paste. Apply the paste onto your face evenly and wait for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off and voila! You’re done! This simple mask will do all the tricks it needs to moisturize and exfoliate your skin leaving it smooth and soft.
  2. If your skin is prone to acne, then you should try mixing lemon and egg white with oatmeal. You can also add a spoon of honey as well. This will moisturize, soothe, and lighten up any red spots on your face. Oatmeal has both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which makes it great for treating acne skin and reversing damages caused by sunburns.
  3. The last one is one of my favorite. An oatmeal bath! Sounds interesting? This is a truly relaxing bath that is great after you had a long day at work. Pour 1 to 2 cups of oatmeal into your warm water tub and add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. This bath will moisturize and cleanse your whole body, and heal any itching spots you have by normalizing your skin’s pH level.

Oatmeal is great for all skin types, even sensitive skin because of its gentle properties. Next time you make oatmeal for breakfast, why not make some extra for a mask!

The Beauty Benefits of Ginseng

Ginseng in Chinese is “man root” because its roots resemble little human with forks that look like arms and legs. Some people have heard that ginseng is healthy to the body, but actually don’t even know why. And some people would say “oh, it’s good for your skin” but don’t really know what it actually does. If you really don’t know, it’s okay because you’re not alone. Coming from an Asian family background, I don’t know either besides my mom telling me that it’s healthy. So, I’ve done some research and here are some things I got so far.

I found that ginseng is great for human health in several ways. It strengthens the immune system and helps patience with diabetes to improve blood sugar level. It helps ease menstrual cramps for ladies. It serves as a stimulant for athletes because it is believed to help increase energy levels. It improves cellular health and helps patience feel less fatigue. And last but not least, I found that ginseng does a wonderful job improving your skin!

Ginseng is super rich in phytonutrients and antioxidants which are great for your skin. Ginseng mask is best for anti-aging because it helps reduce wrinkles and gets rid of the free radicals on your skin. The mask is great for reducing acne outbreaks and rosacea because it has anti-inflammatory properties. It helps protect the skin from UV radiation and also brightens up skin tones.

Right after I found out about the skin benefits of ginseng, I went to buy ginseng powder at a local Chinese pharmacy and made my own mask at home with honey and lemon. It is easy and convenient. So why don’t you try it too! And don’t forget to moisturize your face with a cream or a serum.

Feel free to comment down below or make any recommendations for using Ginseng. 😉

The Expensive Delicacy for Your Skin

Caviar, one of the most expensive delicacies in the world, can be one of your skin’s best friends. Why? Because it turns out that this expensive delicacy made of tiny processed and salted fish eggs can have many benefits to the skin. It is not new to us that people do facials, but have you done a caviar facial before?

According to dermatologist, Dr. Sejal Shah, the caviar extract that acts as a pampering beauty ingredient is not the roe itself, “it’s the stuffs that are around them.” The extracts have vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids, as well as antioxidants. All these properties can do wonders to your hair, skin, and nails too! Amino acids can promote tissue repair, improving both the texture and tone of the skin. Omega 3 fatty acids are also found in caviar, which have anti-inflammatory properties. That is why some luxury creams out there contain caviar extracts, because they have anti-aging benefits.

Glow like a glow fish after a caviar facial! Caviar has the goodness of the sea, meaning it is rich in sea minerals. And these sea minerals have been proven to benefit the skin. Caviar is like your skin’s protein diet. Doing caviar facial regularly is like feeding your skin with proteins that will ensure rejuvenation of your skin to make you look younger and less tired.

After the caviar facial, don’t forget to apply your favorite nourishing cream or serum to bring out the best of your skin. 🙂
